Iowa has faced numerous rounds of severe weather systems that have led to flooding and tornados disrupting communities in the spring and summer of 2024.
These severe weather systems impacted two-thirds of Iowa’s 99 counties creating over $130 million in infrastructure damages.
To help support local communities impacted by these systems, Mom’s Meals donated $5,000 to the Red Cross disaster relief efforts.
“Anytime someone supports the Red Cross that money can be designated,” said Neal Bohnet, Red Cross’s regional chief development officer for the Nebraska-Iowa region.
Mom’s Meals donation will be used towards relief efforts for the flooding that took place in Northwest Iowa and the recovery efforts from the May 21 Greenfield tornado. This includes things such as providing hot meals to people, tornado clean up kits, providing access to mental health services, and much more.
History of giving to the Red Cross
Along with the most recent donation of $5,000, Mom’s Meals has been supporting the Red Cross for several years. In 2017, Mom’s Meals donated $1,200 in support of hurricane relief for Puerto Rico. Then in 2023, the Charitable Contributions Committee matched employee donations with Mom’s Meals and were able to donate $3,000 in support of the Hawaii wildfires.
“We can’t deliver our mission without fantastic partners like Mom’s Meals, and they really do help make the mission of the Red Cross possible.” added Bohnet.
